Tricia Kim ~I came to Bali with one suitcase in 1997 to work as head designer for iconic jewelry brand John Hardy. Today I live and work in Pererenan where I have built a lovely home that I share with my teenage son, a dog and a cat.
I have always been fascinated with drawing and shiny objects and piano since an early age. This lead to studying fine arts in top art schools in NYC, Paris and California, where I started hand making jewelry. A stint with high end goldsmith Jenny Lessard in NYC and a gold company in midtown, lead me to experiment with ancient techniques of granulation, chain making, and gemstone setting.
My brand ‘Nagicia’, a portmanteau of Naga (meaning dragon and the year I was born into) and Tricia came to life whilst trekking in Nepal.
After traveling throughout SE Asia in 2000, I landed back in Bali and started my brand. I always wondered how I could give back to the communities in Bali. This came to fruition when the Canggu chapter of Rotary began. As a charter member and past president, I have been able to help in more ways than I thought possible. Through education programs and workshops and working alongside other like minded individuals, we have been able to better lives of many people through water tanks, beach clean ups, etc. I support Bye Bye Plastic Bags, ROLE foundation, Sole Me, Pawsible, Eco Bali, and many other non-profit organizations.
This year, I am starting up a circular social program, to empower local women by starting a workshop teaching specialized skills. These women will be able to support themselves and their families with this project. I dream this capsule project will be a format to be copied around other villages in Bali and elsewhere.
I am happy that I can utilize my jewelry design skills to better peoples lives. This is the best reward any designer can wish for.
