PROFILE

Korean born Tricia ‘Naga’, meaning dragon and the year she was born into, began her love story with the mineral kingdom and jewellery design in a conventional way, although her pieces are anything but conventional. After studying in Paris and New York the Parsons School of Design, she went on to the School of Visual Arts and ended up a postgraduate of the California College of Arts and Crafts, having specialised in fine arts and sculpture. Tricia made a deliberate decision to become a jewellery designer and started selling her initial pieces in San Francisco on the street, at fairs and eventually in galleries.

Then it was time for a move back to the Big Apple and Tricia got her self an apprentice-ship with a high-end exclusive goldsmith and this is where she learnt fine jewellery making in the early 90’s. Tricia first came to Bali in 1997 to work for John Hardy and stayed ‘til 1999. After a year of travelling through out South East Asia she started her collections in Nepal and India and created her company ‘Nagicia’ in Kathmandu. The name is a blend of her nickname Naga and Tricia. The Logo is inspired by the shape of dragon heads on the cornices of the Thai temples and represents the five elements of Earth, Metal, Water, Wood and Fire, reflected in her collections.

Tricia’s pieces are classically influenced yet fashion forward. A fusion of clean modern lines enhanced with mystical metaphors and special attention to detail. Her mission is to continue to incorporate the symbols of the Nagicia logo, the lotus, butterfly, root, dragon, horse, as well as, gems and coins into wearable forms that can enhance our energies. The aim is also to develop pieces, which are not only pleasing to the eye, but also pleasing to the body through the healing properties of the stones and symbols. The minerals, which come from all over the world, are a mixture of faceted and raw stones set in 925 sterling silver, 18K and 22K gold and sometimes platinum.

Tricia tours around but spends most of her time in Bali, where the design and production process takes place, where jewellery making is an ancient art. The talent and skill of the Balinese and Javanese jewellers enable Tricia to manifest her designs into reality.
